Final striping underway on I-90 Bear Canyon to Jackson Creek

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River are resuming construction to apply final striping on the I-90 Bear Canyon to Jackson Creek project.

This work is anticipated to take about a week to complete, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting. Once the final striping is applied, the project will officially be complete.

Motorists traveling through the construction zone can expect traffic reduced to a single lane in each direction and reduced speed limits. Additionally, wide loads may be restricted in the project area at times; please check 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information on restrictions.

“Final striping is the last step to finish this project, which will rehabilitate about 6 miles of the interstate and provide motorists a smoother driving experience,” said Dustin Foran, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “We really appreciate the public’s patience throughout construction.”

Last year, crews removed and replaced the pavement on the east- and westbound lanes of Interstate 90 (I-90) between Bozeman and Livingston. They also removed and replaced concrete bridge approaches; replaced the median concrete barrier rail, guardrail, and rumble strips; removed and replaced the pavement on interstate on- and off-ramps, as well as adjacent crossroads; and installed weather-activated flashing lights at four overpass bridges. This year, in addition to striping work, crews installed new guardrail and signage and applied a seal and cover (chip seal).

The purpose of this project is to preserve the pavement for many years to come and improve the ride for motorists. It will also provide safety enhancements.
