MISSOULA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Pavement Maintenance Services Inc. have completed work on the Missoula Urban Pavement Preservation project.
This project sealed cracks on eight streets in the Missoula area. This included portions of Mullan Road, South 3rd Street, South Reserve Street, East Broadway Street, Beckwith Avenue, Toole Avenue, Spruce Street, and Madison Street. Additionally, a seal and cover (chip seal) was applied along with fresh pavement markings.
“This project was a collaborative effort with the City of Missoula to rehabilitate some of the most high-traffic streets in Missoula,” said Dennis Hart, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “MDT and Pavement Maintenance Services Inc. thank the public for their patience and understanding while crews repaired these busy, urban roads.”
Work on this project began in June and took about two months to complete.
In total, approximately 7 miles of pavement were rehabilitated during this project. These improvements will reduce future maintenance needs and extend the service life of the repaired roadways.
These streets had become worn down over time and needed repairs. Repairing the cracks in the roadway now prevents them from expanding and requiring more expensive repairs in the future. Additionally, a more durable chip seal with a higher wear factor was used, which further reduces wear and required maintenance.
