BOZEMAN — Montana State University expects to welcome thousands of students to its on-campus residence halls before classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and the university is recommending the best routes to campus during this busy period.
Students moving in have been provided instructions detailing the routes to their assigned residence halls. Maps of the recommended routes are online at www.montana.edu/housing/halls/moveinmaps.html. Special move-in curbside parking permits, which allow curbside parking for 30 minutes, are available to download at https://www.montana.edu/housing/halls/documents/2026-MoveIn-Parking-Credential-UPDATED.pdf.

Road construction near campus
In addition, road construction near MSU will impact regular traffic patterns near campus in the coming months. Specifically, the city of Bozeman’s project to replace aging sewer transmission pipelines from West Kagy Boulevard to Babcock Street is ongoing and will impact traffic on the south side of campus near Bobcat Stadium.
As part of that project, the South 3rd Avenue/West Kagy Boulevard/South Willson Avenue reopened to traffic on Aug. 21. Starting this week, crews will continue sewer improvements along West Kagy Boulevard, moving west toward South 7th Avenue. That work is expected to conclude by Oct. 30.
In addition, crews will begin working on the West Kagy Boulevard and South Tracy Avenue intersection. City officials say they anticipate that work will result in intermittent closures along South Tracy Avenue beginning the week of Aug. 24. Construction is estimated to be completed by November.
In addition, another crew will install a temporary wastewater diversion connecting a manhole at the intersection of West Mason Street and South Willson Avenue. Two-way traffic on Willson will be maintained, although traffic will be shifted around operations, and West Mason Street will be closed briefly for a manhole replacement near Langhor Park.
Also starting Monday, Aug. 24, the westbound left-turn lane into the Museum of the Rockies’ main entrance will be temporarily closed. Signs will direct westbound museum visitors to take South 7th Avenue into the museum’s staff parking lot and then follow the one-way service drive to the visitor parking lot. During this closure, all museum visitors must exit via the main driveway and turn right onto West Kagy Boulevard.
