BOZEMAN — Montana State University will observe National Hispanic Heritage Month with a kickoff event hosted by the student organization Fuerza Latinx from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in Inspiration Hall.
The event is free and open to the public and will pay tribute to the cultural legacy, history, societal contributions and experiences of people of Hispanic and Latino heritage in Montana and the U.S.
“One of the ways MSU supports student success is by creating opportunities for connection, learning and community,” said Ariel Donohue, senior access officer for MSU’s Access and Success office. “Hispanic Heritage Month brings people together to celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities while encouraging meaningful engagement across campus. These experiences help create a welcoming environment where students can explore new perspectives and develop a stronger sense of belonging.”
Activities provided by the MSU Library will include sugar skull decorating, button making and a station where students can check out Hispanic and Latino books or DVDS. The event will also feature piñatas, Lotería – a traditional Mexican card game, similar to bingo – and music from a DJ.
MSU Culinary Services will provide empanadas, ropa vieja, rice, a salsa bar, arroz con leche and churros at no cost.
