Minor delays expected on I-90 near Belgrade and Bozeman

BELGRADE/BOZEMAN, Mont. – Construction on the I-90: Belgrade to Bozeman project is nearing completion. Starting on July 23, crews plan to apply a seal and cover (chip seal) to the roadway, which is expected to be completed within approximately one week, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting. Drivers should expect single-lane traffic in each direction and reduced speeds on Interstate 90 (I-90) while the chip seal is applied.

While most construction on this project has been completed at night to minimize impacts on the traveling public, the upcoming chip seal work will need to be completed during the day because it requires warmer temperatures to properly cure.

Following the chip seal, remaining work includes striping the roadway and cleaning up loose chips. Crews plan to return 30 to 45 days after the chip seal cures to apply permanent, epoxy pavement markings to the road.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Riverside Contracting, Inc., partnered on this project to make improvements along I-90 between the east end of the Belgrade Airway Boulevard Interchange (Exit 299) and the North Rouse Avenue railroad overpass in Bozeman. The purpose of the project is to extend the life of the roadway and enhance safety features within the project corridor.

Project improvements

• Resurfacing the roadway by milling the existing surface, applying a new overlay, and finishing with a chip seal
• Upgrading pavement markings, signage, and guardrail
• Constructing minor bridge improvements
