HELENA, Mont. — Governor Greg Gianforte this week honored Montana Department of Administration (DOA) employee Rob Virts with the Governor’s Outstanding Service Award to recognize his over three decades of service to the State of Montana ahead of his retirement.
“Rob has dedicated his career to protecting Montana workers, strengthening workplace safety, and serving others with integrity and professionalism,” Gov. Gianforte said. “His leadership has improved outcomes for state employees and made a lasting difference in the lives of Montana families. We are grateful for his years of service and proud to recognize him with this award.”
Virts currently serves as program manager for the Workers’ Compensation Management Bureau, where he leads statewide workers’ compensation and risk management programs for the state.
Prior to joining DOA, Virts spent nearly 10 years with the Montana Department of Transportation as Occupational Safety & Health Bureau chief. Over the course of his 31-year career, he has become a respected leader and trusted resource in occupational safety, risk management, and workplace health, helping strengthen safety culture across state government.
In addition to his career, Virts serves on the board of the Montana University System and as president of Kids’ Chance of Montana, a nonprofit organization that provides higher education scholarships to children of workers who have been severely injured or killed on the job.
Known for his commitment to public service and helping others succeed, Virts has positively impacted state employees, agencies, and families across Montana. He plans to retire in July 2027 after over three decades of service.
