HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Jeffery Contracting Inc. are closing the Interstate 15 (I-15) Spring Creek Interchange (Exit 219) northbound off-ramp on October 20 and 21, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.
This closure is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The southbound on-ramp will remain open. MDT recommends northbound traffic use Exit 226 in Wolf Creek to access Recreation Road during the closures.
“During the closure we will be replacing the guardrail on the ramp,” said Matt Widhalm, MDT Engineering Project Manager. “Due to the narrow width of the ramp, this closure is necessary to safely complete the work. We will reopen the ramp as quickly as possible.”
Motorists traveling through the construction area should expect crossover traffic patterns, single-lane traffic traveling in both directions on the southbound side of I-15, and reduced speed limits.
A 12-foot width restriction remains in place, and all loads wider than 12 feet need to be staged and escorted. Motorists traveling through the project area between 4 and 6 a.m. may encounter brief interstate closures if wide-load escorts are needed.
Work on this project began in April 2026 when crews began removing and replacing more than a foot of degraded roadway material on the northbound lanes of I-15. Resurfacing the southbound lanes is expected to take place in 2027.
