PORTLAND, Ore. – The Carroll men's soccer team scored twice in the second half but could not complete the comeback, falling 3-2 to Warner Pacific on Sunday afternoon at the Timbers Complex.
The Fighting Saints (7-5-2, 6-3-1) dropped a hard-fought conference road match to the Knights (6-6-2, 4-5-1) despite out-shooting them 22-14 on a soggy afternoon in the City of Roses.
Warner Pacific got on the board first, as Jose Robles scored in the sixth minute off an assist from Linden Maurer to make it 1-0 early. The Knights then doubled their lead in the 21st minute when Damian Palominos converted a penalty kick following a Saints foul in the box, and Carroll went into the break trailing 2-0.
Things went from bad to worse for the Saints as Julio Andrade made it 3-0 in favor of the Knights just over a minute into the second half, finishing off an assist from Alfredo Jimenez.
Carroll finally found its footing, controlling the rest of the match from that point forward. The Saints put up 18 second-half shots to Warner Pacific's eight, generating enough pressure to make things interesting following the early deficit.
The Saints had a chance to cut into the lead in the 54th minute, but Felix Billard's penalty kick was saved by Knights goalkeeper Owen Purvis.
It took longer than they would have liked, but Carroll finally broke through in the 64th minute, when Daniel Jones (Luton, England / FR) scored his second goal of the year to make it 3-1.
Coming down to the wire, Nicolas Sanchez (Napa, Calif. / JR) pulled the Saints within one in the 86th minute, finishing off an assist from Felix Billard (Mallorco, Spain / SR). Carroll could not find the equalizer before the final whistle, however, falling in a hard-fought battle to wrap up their 2026 road slate.
Sam Loughton led the Saints with six shots, while Sanchez and Billard each added three, and goalkeeper Noah Jordan (Deer Park, Wash. / JR) made three saves in goal for Carroll on the afternoon.
The Saints will now turn their attention towards a pair of home games to wrap up the regular season, hosting both Corban and Bushnell next weekend in Helena on Thursday and Saturday.
