DILLON — A trumpet recital will be held on the University of
Montana-Western campus Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the small
auditorium in Main Hall.
Master classes for junior high and high school brass students
were held earlier in the day, with participating stu dents
performing an ensemble piece in the evening recital.
The program is free and open to the public.
“ It would seem we don't share our students' and faculty talents
with the community often enough here in the university music offer
ings,” said UM-Western music fac ulty member Dale Misenhelter.
“ We do have student recitals and concerts, and having a guest
artist join us this week just makes it all the more important that
we share the music with the community.”
Guest artist David Spencer, a professional trumpeter and faculty
member at the University of Memphis, will share the recital
spotlight with Misenhelter. Spencer tours frequently, and has been
a musician for Disney and several international orchestras,
including the Seoul (South Korea) Philharmonic. He has recorded CDs
for several labels.
The recital will also feature several pianists from the area,
including LucyAnne Lienesch, UM-Western faculty piano teacher, and
Linda Holden, pianist for the Twin Bridges schools. Music performed
will include traditional solo literature, as well as “ midi” music
(computer) accompaniments.
Upcoming performances in music at Western include a CMENC
(Collegiate Music Educators) student recital on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m.,
a solo recital by senior clarinetist Chris Moen on Nov. 28 at 8
p.m., and a combined concert by choral and band student groups on
Dec. 6 at 8 p.m.
Saturday's program will last about an hour. Questions may be
directed to Misenhelter at UM Western, 683-7030.
