Read with Einstein at the library
DILLON — The Dillon Public Library will be sponsoring a Saturday morning reading program at the Library beginning Saturday, Feb. 16, and continuing weekly through the end of March.
These Saturday morning reading events are based on information supplied by R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs), a program of the Intermountain Therapy Animals, a nonprofit organization, based out of Utah, and founded in 1993.
The READ program improves children’s reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to a dog. But not just any dog! READ dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner as a team traveling to many settings as a reading companion for children. WHAT? Dogs can’t read! Of course they can’t. But they can be GREAT listeners, and their presence creates an inviting and motivating environment for children n relaxed, comfortable, safe, nonjudgmental, empowering and FUN! The particular R.E.A.D. dog for Dillon Public Library is Einstein, a Labrador and Irish Setter mix that is owned by Pat Scott of Glen. Einstein was named because he has some wild hair on his head that reminds people of Albert Einstein’s wild hair do, and maybe because he’s such a smart dog, too! Einstein is Pat’s third therapy dog. When Pat lived in Bozeman, her other therapy dogs participated in READ programs at Border’s Books and also at the Bozeman Public Library. In addition, she has visited nursing homes with her therapy dogs and offered comfort to patients in the dialysis unit of the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
Therapy dogs like Einstein are trained using the Delta Society’s Pet Partner program. A good READ animal is, first of all, a registered, tested and insured therapy animal. This means they have been screened for skills and temperament, health and cleanliness, good manners and attitude. They are calm, reliable and obedient. Beyond that, the dog handlers have additional orientation and training specifically for the READ program.
Information on the READ program has been sent home to parents of school-aged children who might want to participate in the program. However, any child may sign up for a 15-minute reading session with Einstein by calling the Library (683-4544) or signing up on the session sheet, which is at the Library’s Circulation Desk.
As always, this Library program is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. So, come on down and sign your child up for a reading session with a very special dog….EINSTEIN. See you @ the Library!

Being described as, “…the link that connects the young and the old generations,” and, “the best new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time,” the Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashion dance hell standards while making a point to bring many of the more obsure songs of past masters into their repertoire and play them with gusto. The variety and energy they release evolves through their shows, bringing multi-faceted angles to Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco. Steeped in music since children and hailing from farms and towns in Cajun country, the Pine Leaf Boys have preserved the traditional Cajun sounds, while allowing it to breathe and stretch with those who play it. They present their music in multiple configurations such as twin fiddle, duo accordion/fiddle, bass, drum, and foot-stomping jures.
