‘‘Baby Einstein: Baby’s First Moves’’ (DVD, $19.99) The ‘‘Baby
Einstein’’ videos are hugely successful, in part because babies are
generally mesmerized by the classical music, fast-changing scenes
and adorable puppets, but also because they make mom and dad feel
good about introducing their children to worthy concepts. That
tradition continues in the series’ latest installment: ‘‘Baby’s
First Moves.’’
The video features the music of Beethoven, Bach and Mozart,
paired with videos of babies moving: waving, crawling, walking,
playing peek-a-boo. Interspersed among this are puppets (a
kangaroo, a worm) playing around.
Babies love to watch other babies, and their attention spans are
short, so this is a good way to keep them watching.
Then the video moves on to a song ‘‘If You’re Happy and You Know
It,’’ and more advanced moves for the baby set, such as dancing,
rocking, shaking and spinning. If you have a toddler, he or she
will like this part. If you have a baby, the videos show parents
helping the baby move in these ways. Considering this is the only
part of the video that encourages babies to do the moving, at just
a few minutes, it’s far too short.
Most babies will enjoy this video, though it’s not the kind of
video most parents will want to watch over and over. However,
parents will enjoy the short bonus feature called Move with Me,
featuring Pilates instructor Michelle Dozois showing moves to
strengthen your body while you interact with baby.
