Technology offers a bounty of conveniences, especially in the banking world.
Consumers eager to take full advantage of their phones and tablets when it comes to managing bank accounts, while also enjoying the benefits of member-owned credit unions, have a new option after a merger joined two credit unions in Butte.
Convenience and technology are priorities for Horizon Credit Union, 1555 Harrison Ave.
“We are really focusing on making available these services that weren’t previously available – the mobile, electronic services and the mortgage offerings,” said CEO Jeff Adams.
Last March, a merger joined Ed Tech Federal Credit Union and Horizon Credit Union. The union provides members with a full scope of services offered at 20 branches throughout Montana, Idaho and Washington. Specifically, Horizon serves 14 counties throughout western Montana.
The merger retained local jobs in the professional category. Horizon employs 10 people in the Butte branch and a small office on the Montana State Hospital at Warm Springs campus. Throughout the area, the credit union serves about 5,000 members, said marketing vice president Bryan Grytdal.
The membership community has benefited from e-services offerings made possible through the merger.
“We have mobile and tablet apps for both Android and Apple products,” Grytdal said. “We have remote-deposit capture, too.”
Remote-deposit capture allows consumers to snap photos of checks with their smart phones and deposit them into their accounts electronically.
Horizon also offers consumer mortgage lending with rates and products that are competitive with other lenders. All levels of home buyers will find programs and products available at the credit union.
“We have FHA, VA, USDA and all forms of conventional mortgages,” Adams said. “We make the secondary market available as well as in-house.”
The community chartered credit union is open for business to anyone in Butte and the surrounding areas. Credit unions are member-owned, and account holders participate in decision-making processes.
