CENTRAL MONTANA — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is announcing and inviting the public to comment on a proposal to upgrade and install signage at various locations throughout MDT’s Great Falls District. Work will occur in and around the communities of Augusta, Belt, Cascade, Conrad, Coughlin, Craig, Cut Bank, Fairfield, Fort Benton, Gildford, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Helmville, Inverness, Ledger, Pendroy, Rudyard, Sun River, and Vaughn.
Proposed work includes intersection signing consisting of stop, stop ahead, and intersection warning signs, as well as flashers, delineation, destination lighting, and retroreflective backplates on signal heads. The purpose of the project is to improve roadway safety features and address crash trends observed at intersections in various locations throughout the district.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2030 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.
Partnering with the community is an important part of properly planning for future projects. MDT welcomes the public to provide ideas and comments on the proposed project. Comments may be submitted online at mdt.mt.gov/contact/comment-form.aspx or in writing to Montana Department of Transportation, Great Falls office, PO Box 1359, Great Falls, MT 59403-1359. Please note that comments are for project UPN 10734000.
The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Project Development Engineer James Combs at 406-454-5900 or Project Engineer David Relph at 406-444-1280 with questions or comments about the project.
