WorkshopMT is a startup nonprofit organization based in Kalispell working to build a community space for people of all ages and abilities to learn woodworking, metalworking and fabrication skills.
“We have been working for the past few years to build an organization that supports the creative arts community and the construction and manufacturing industries in northwest Montana,” said Luke Rumage, WorkshopMT director. “We believe that everybody is creative in their own way and exploring that creativity with one another brings people together across boundaries and ideologies to build relationships.”
Using a $10,000 grant from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation, WorkshopMT was able to purchase a mobile toolkit from Maple Wood Shop and “develop new and exciting programs” that will begin in 2025, Rumage said.
One such program is a beginner hand-tool woodworking class. The mobile tool kit allows WorkshopMT staff to travel to other nonprofits, public school and home-school systems, and after-school programs to teach woodworking to their students.
“This mobile kit will help us reach students where they are, whether that is a homeschool program, after-school program, a rural school with no shop classes or an underserved community,” said Rumage.
A grant from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation allowed WorkshopMT to purchase a mobile tool kit that will allow them to travel to teach.

WorkshopMT also provides access to a wood shop, metal shop and fabrication lab so that students of all skill sets “have the highest quality tools at their disposal,” said Rumage.
