Paul is participating in his first major semifinal. Tsitsipas was the runner-up to Djokovic at the 2021 French Open. Khachanov has never reached a Slam final.

The term "choke" is often used when describing a tennis player who misses what looks like an easy shot or loses a match at the Australian Open and other tournaments. The attention falls on one athlete when there are no teammates to cover for mistakes or provide help at key junctures in an individual sport. That means plenty of praise for the winners and accusations of "choking" lobbed at the losers. Sometimes it's used when a high-ranked player is defeated by someone much lower-ranked that they're "supposed" to beat. Or when someone throws away a big lead. It is not surprising that most players are not fans of the term.

MELBOURNE, Australia — On the court at Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday night, Victoria Azarenka — the athlete — displayed the same confident brand of take-the-ball-early, hard-hitting tennis that carried her to two Australian Open titles and the No. 1 ranking a decade ago.

SEATTLE — The transfer portal has changed the college-football landscape, and because of that, high school recruiting has changed too. How much the transfer portal has reduced the opportunity for high school players to get football scholarship offers can be debated. There can also be a debate on what has had the biggest impact on opportunities: the transfer portal that allows players to move ...

Tua Tagovailoa’s parents said this past week he’ll play next season. He remains in concussion protocol and will skip the Pro Bowl. PITTSBURGH — I was sad when Buffalo lost to Cincinnati last week but not for the reasons you might think. I am not a Bills fan — don't particularly care for the Bills, to be honest — and while the Damar Hamlin story was captivating and inspiring, no, that didn't have me rooting for the Bills, either. My interest in the Bills winning had everything to do with my desire to see the Bills play the ...
