Dillon's Bradley Rakich and Corvallis' Olivia Fehr lived up to their top seeds and emerged as singles champions at the Southwest A Divisional Tennis Tournaments that went deep into Friday night in Hamilton and Corvallis.
Rakich, the No. 1 seeded divisional boys player, fended off Hamilton’s No. 3 Alex Raymond for the title. No. 1 Fehr powered past Dillon’s Nicoile Hritsco in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the girls title.
Rakich’s and Fehr’s performances helped the Dillon boys and Corvallis girls claim the divisional team titles.
In the boys doubles tournament, Corvallis’ Gabe De Leo and Caleb Warnken defeated Butte Central’s Cameron Johnson and Guido Ossello for the crown.
In the girls doubles tournament, the Stevensville duo of Erin Bartlett and Jackie Westman prevailed over Corvallis’ Connie Watt and Claire Pickett 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
The top four boys and girls singles players and doubles teams from the Southwest A tourney advance to the Class A State Tennis Tournament in Polson Thursday through Saturday.
Other State qualifiers from the divisional tournament are:
• Hamilton’s Sarah Trihn and Butte Central’s Zoe Sullivan. Trihn needed a tiebreaker to edge Sullivan in the girls singles third-place match, pulling out the win 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4).
• Butte Central’s Manuel Gonzalez and Corvallis’ Marius Goddard. Gonzalez topped Goddard in the boys singles consolation final.
• Corvallis’ girls double team of Danielle Coates/Kristina Weidkamp and Stevensville tandem Jamyn Beller/Callie Cavill. The Blue Devils duo cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over their Stevensville opponents in the girls doubles third-place match.
• Dillon’s doubles partners Luke Peterson and Mark Southam will advance to State along with Butte Central’s Logan Harrington and Noah McGee. Peterson and Southam topped the Maroons’ duo in the boys doubles consolation final.
