Butte’s inaugural Butte 100 mountain bike race starts at 8 a.m. Saturday west of Montana Tech.
Based on current registrations, and anticipated last-minute sign-ups, race organizer Gina Evans on Thursday estimated about 60 people will compete.
Racers from Washington and Oregon, as well as western Montana, have registered so far, she said.
The race proceeds from Montana Tech north on old roads and single-track trails for 50 miles to Thunderbolt Mountain, and then returns to Butte for 100 miles total.
Two other distances also are offered — a 100K (about 60 miles) and 50K (about 30 miles).
The course will be well supported with aid stations and marshals, Evans said.
