The Anaconda school board will hold an informational public forum on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Anaconda High School Little Theater to give the public another opportunity to voice their opinions on Anaconda High and Butte Central possibly enlisting in a cooperative football team.
“We want as many people to speak and be heard as possible,” said Anaconda school board member Blake Hempstead. “We want the community to be involved in it. We know how important these decisions are going to be moving forward.”
For the past few months, the Butte Central and Anaconda school boards and administration teams have been mulling over the possibility of the two rivals setting aside their differences and applying with the MHSA to form a single co-op football team. Both schools hosted open forums last Wednesday to give people a chance to express their support or concerns.
To proceed with the application process, both school boards would need to approve the decision with majority votes in favor. Both schools would then need to file a joint application with the MHSA where the final decision would be made by Executive Director Mark Beckman.
