The Butte High boys swim team took second, and the girls third at the Bozeman Hawks Meet recently.
The Bulldog boys finished behind only the host Hawks in the team standings, led by individual titles from seniors Gavin Sison (100 fly) and Keegan Whelan (100 breast), as well as junior Jake Bentley (200 free). Bentley and Whelan also teamed with Levin Mullaney and Matt Ingersoll to win the 200 free relay.
Sison nearly added a second individual title, but was edged by five-hundredths of a second in the 50 free. Adding other impressive finishes were Whelan (second, 400 free), Bentley (third, 100 back) and the second-place 200 medley relay team of Bentley, Whelan, Sison and Mullaney.
The Butte High girls’ 200 free relay squad, composed of Hannah Amtmann, Haley Hildreth, Elsie Dickerson and Carlee Johnson placed second to lead the Bulldogs. Dickerson, a freshman, added a second in the 400 free, while Johnson (100 breast) and Amtmann (200 free) each posted a third-place finish.
“Coming back after the holidays, this meet showed that we have continued to improve,” Butte High coach Lynn Shrader said. “The swimmers are getting stronger every meet, and almost everyone had a personal best time … I am very proud of them.”
The Butte High teams next compete today in Great Falls.
