BOZEMAN — Six of the best athletes in Montana State history and one of the Big Sky Conference’s most dominant teams will grab the spotlight Jan. 19 when they earn induction into the Bobcat athletic hall of fame.
The inductee list is headlined by men’s basketball player Scott Hatler and football players Corey Smith and Brent Swaggert.
One of the greatest point guards in Big Sky history, Hatler had 608 career assists, which was second-most in league history upon the completion of his career. Hatler, of Great Falls, also was an assistant coach at Montana State Billings and the first head coach of the Billings RimRockers professional basketball franchise.
Smith set a Big Sky record with four punt returns for touchdowns in 2003, and became the first player in league history to return two punts for touchdowns in the same game, and a punt and kickoff for scores in one game. He was consensus All-American in 2003.
One of the key players in Montana State’s rise from a winless 2000 season to back-to-back Big Sky championships, Swaggert, an offensive lineman, remains one of three players in program history to earn All-America honors three times.
Volleyball player Brandy Anderson Archdale, skiier Ruster Squire, tennis player Federico Ueltschi and the 2004-06 league championship men’s tennis teams will also be inducted.
The 2018 induction ceremony is Jan. 19 in the Strand Union Building’s Joseph May Ballrooms. A social begins at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 and the induction ceremony to follow.
Cost is $30 per person with an RSVP prior to Jan. 10, and $40 for an RSVP Jan. 11 or later. To RSVP or for information, call 406-994-6859.
