Those of us who are concerned that an American President considers a free press an “enemy of the people,” should take heart at this week’s news.
By exonerating Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the brutal assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, despite CIA evidence to the contrary, President Trump has chosen "the art of the deal" over American ideals such as freedom of the press and the basic human rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
(Khashoggi reportedly was entering the Saudi Consulate to secure documents required for his impending marriage.) Why should we take heart? Because President Trump, despite his hatred of the press, values a journalist’s life at $450 billion — the amount of money Saudi Arabia has committed to arms purchases from the U.S.
