Not the place
Is Southwest Montana the last best place? Yes, yes and yes!
It is also not the “place” for oil and gas development on public lands.
Dear readers, don’t let the likes of Daines, Gianforte, Zinke and that orange lump in the White House tell you that drilling in Beaverhead and Madison counties is a good deal. Ignore them. These guys are world class scalawags hell-bent on rolling back environmental regulations. They believe human caused climate change is not a scientific fact and that burning coal is not harmful. (Wow! How do these guys get away with it?)
Facts do matter. Matter of fact, the majority of people in Montana believe that Southwest Montana is an extension of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem and want it roadless and undeveloped.
Today there is hope. Zinke is going, going GONE and Trump is not far behind.
This is the perfect time to demand changes in the way we do business on public land. We should review our antiquated mineral and grazing laws. It is the right thing to do since they are major components of our commonwealth.
So…if you are concerned about unnecessary oil and gas development in Southwest Montana, let the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) know you oppose all oil and gas sales in Beaverhead and Madison counties: BLM, Dillon, 1005 Selway Dr., 683-2337. Your comments can be hand-carried to the BLM office.
Comment period ends Fri., Dec. 21, 2018.
