Dick Crockford loved community journalism. And he was masterful at it.
Crockford, for the past decade-plus the publisher of the Dillon Tribune, died last week.
We will miss his cheerful demeanor, his sense of humor and most of all the service to the communities he served and the profession he loved.
Before coming to Dillon, Crockford served for five years as the editor and publisher of the Big Horn County News in Hardin. He lived in Anaconda for 13 years prior to that, including more than seven years as the editor of the Anaconda Leader. His career also included a stint as the editor of the Shelby Promoter and work for several agricultural publications.
Crockford was a stalwart presence at the Montana Newspaper Association, of which he was former president and a 35-year member.
We join many others in mourning his passing and recognizing the enormous positive impact he had on Montana journalism.
