In 1787 when the original 13 states adopted our new Constitution, a Scottish history professor named Alexander Tyler had this to say concerning the fall of the Athena Republic 2,000 years earlier. He stated democracy is always temporary in nature and cannot exist as a permanent form of government.

He further elaborated, a democracy will continue to exist up to the time voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority will always vote for the candidate who promises the most benefits. What is the final outcome? Every democracy will ultimately collapse due to loose fiscal policy.

Our government cannot give things out from the public treasury if it has no money. If they do, they either borrow the money from other countries or print the money. We the taxpayers stand good for it.

The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations as written by Alexander Tyler is around 200 years. These nations always progressed through the following sequences: From bondage to spiritual faith to great courage to liberty to abundance to complacency to apathy to dependency, back into bondage.

So, where are we now as a nation? Is America on the path towards a collapsing democracy? Sadly yes! Here are my other concerns:

1. Major universities and colleges providing “healing spaces” with Legos, coloring books, dog therapy -- just because the presidential election didn’t go their way. What type of leaders will this generation be when running the government, operating a business, teaching our children?

2. Renegade mayors of “Sanctuary Cities” harboring illegals, ignoring the government’s illegal immigration policy.

3. People demonstrating because our government instituted a moratorium banning people from terrorist countries whose mission is to destroy this country. For the disenchanted … get a clue! Have you seen the immigration crises in Europe?

4. We have an entire generation or two who have no idea what is written in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence. Did you know these historical documents were written specifically for we the people of the United States of America? If you didn’t know this, the freedoms we enjoy daily will cease to exist.

President Ronald Regan warned, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” Will America be another Athena Republic? Something to think about!
