HELENA (AP) — U.S. Sen. Max Baucus has married his girlfriend and former state director Melodee Hanes at the Sieben Ranch north of Helena.

Spokeswoman Kate Downen has said the wedding Saturday evening would be small and casual with close friends and family, but did not release a guest list. Air Force Two carrying Vice President Joe Biden landed in Helena earlier in the day.

The 69-year-old senator recommended Hanes for Montana’s U.S. attorney post in 2009, a move that came under scrutiny due to their relationship.

She withdrew her name from consideration and took a job with the Justice Department in Washington, D.C.

The couple plans to honeymoon in Glacier National Park in August.

Baucus and his second wife, Wanda, divorced in 2009 after 25 years of marriage.
