Spenser Merwin, a former staff member for U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, has been named the new executive director of the Montana Republican Party.

Merwin has been Daines' director of coalitions and outreach since 2015. He was the deputy political director for Daines' Senate campaign during the 2014 election cycle and his regional political director during the 2012 election cycle.

Merwin graduated from Colby College in Maine in 2012 with a degree in government and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Montana in 2018. He lives in Missoula with his fiancée Morgan and enjoys spending time in the mountains of western Montana with his 4-year-old black lab.

As executive director, Merwin will manage staff and oversee the organization that supports Republican candidates. He started in mid-September following a months-long search to replace former executive director Patrick Webb.

"I am honored the Chairman entrusted me to serve the Montana Republican Party as its next Executive Director," Merwin said in a statement. "I look forward to working with the party's candidates and ensuring that the organization is well positioned to win back the Governor's seat, retain the U.S. Senate and House seat, and protect our Republican majorities in the Legislature as well as the other statewide offices on the ballot in 2020."

Montana Republican Party Chairman Don "K" Kaltschmid released a statement welcoming Merwin to the position.

"Spenser is well-known in Republican politics and has the experience to help us build a great organization," Kaltschmid said. "We are excited to get to work and ensure the Montana Republican Party has the resources it needs to support Republican candidates up and down the ticket in 2020."
