Robbery at Silver Bow Pizza
Butte police responded around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to report that a male had grabbed some $200 from a cash register at the Gold Mine Casino inside Silver Bow Pizza.
According to employees, the suspect reached over a counter and took the money while the casino clerk on duty was busy. Employees told police the suspect pushed a casino attendant on his way out the door then fled north on Harrison Avenue.
The suspect, Ted Merritt, 28, reportedly ran across the parking lot of the former Kmart and briefly hid in an Arby's bathroom before being apprehended in the parking lot of Pizza Hut.
When officers arrested Merritt, he allegedly gave them a phony name. Once he was identified, police discovered he was wanted on a pair of felony warrants out of Washington.
Merritt was booked on those warrants and on two new charges: robbery, a felony, and obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor.
Woman allegedly strangled by partner
Police responded to the 2200 block of Silver Bow Boulevard Wednesday afternoon to a report of a disturbance.
When they arrived, officers reportedly found David Allen Mizell, 57, standing outside a residence. They then interviewed a woman who claimed she and Mizell were in an argument about relatives who had been living with them, when Mizell threw her to the ground and strangled her with either a belt or a dog leash.
According to police, the victim had injuries to her neck that were consistent with her claims.
Officers arrested Mizell on suspicion of partner assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a felony. While searching the suspect, officers allegedly discovered Mizell was in possession of drug paraphernalia, leading to an additional misdemeanor charge.
