Meth, heroin, cash found after high speed chase
Police arrested a 24-year-old Great Falls man early Tuesday for allegedly having large amounts of suspected meth and heroin in his backpack, along with $1,200 in cash, after chasing a vehicle at high speeds on the Flat.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for not having its taillights on in the 3600 block of Harrison Avenue around 1:30 a.m. When police activated their overhead lights, the vehicle took off at high speeds, headed north on Harrison, police said.
After following the vehicle around several streets on the Flat and briefly losing sight of it on Paxson Avenue, officers soon located the vehicle again in the 1500 block of Schley Avenue. By then, however, it was unoccupied, police said.
After patrolling the area, officers located a woman and a man, Matthew Webb, who they believed to be in the eluding vehicle. Police released the woman, but arrested Webb on a felony warrant out of Missoula County.
At the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center, officers searched Webb and his belongings, including his backpack. In the backpack, police reportedly located a loaded handgun, a glass jar of marijuana, scales, $1,200 in cash, 8.28 grams of suspected meth and 9.18 grams of suspected heroin.
Webb was cited for six felonies as well for two misdemeanors related to the drugs and cash found in his backpack.
Marijuana, criminal trespass
A 31-year-old man was arrested for allegedly having marijuana and trespassing on Monday afternoon.
Police assisted probation and parole officers in a search of a Motel 6 room around 3 p.m. Officers located Shawn Weisgram in the room, who was not on probation but did reportedly have marijuana and a pipe in his possession.
Weisgram was cited for three misdemeanors, including possession of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal trespass to property, as Motel 6 employees said Weisgram was not allowed on their property. He was arrested and transported to the detention center.
Attempted shoe theft
Police arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to steal a pair of shoes from Walmart on Monday.
Officers responded to the Harrison Avenue store at 12:30 p.m. to confront a woman who employees said was walking through the store with concealed items. When police arrived and approached the woman, Chelsey Hansen, she reportedly attempted to run past them out the front doors. Officers were able to catch up with her, police said.
Police determined Hansen had concealed a pair of shoes she intended to steal. Officers also discovered Hansen had a $1,500 theft warrant for her arrest out of Butte City Court.
Hansen was cited for the new theft, a misdemeanor, and arrested on the misdemeanor warrant. She was also cited for obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor.
