Drugs and over 100 items suspected stolen
A 31-year-old man was arrested after police found roughly 120 allegedly stolen items in his vehicle.
On Friday night, police stopped a vehicle near Cornell and Howard streets for failing to use their turn signal. Officers learned the driver, Joshua Webster, had a $1,000 criminal contempt warrant out of Butte City Court for his arrest. When they informed Webster of the warrant, he resisted arrest, refusing to step out of the vehicle. Police said they had to take Webster to the ground to handcuff him.
Officers also discovered Webster was on parole out of Helena. Webster’s parole officer gave Butte police permission to search his vehicle. There, officers found about 120 allegedly stolen items, including mail, credit cards and jewelry.
Police said most of the items were stolen mail out of Helena, but they also found mail stolen out of Bozeman, Billings, Colorado and Idaho. All of the suspected stolen items are under investigation, as they are most likely related to “several thefts in several jurisdictions,” police said.
In Webster’s vehicle, police also found what they believed to be methamphetamine, a pipe and a scale. He was cited for felony possession of dangerous drugs, along with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal contempt and resisting arrest.
Stolen and Returned iPhone 10
Police arrested a 27-year-old man for stealing, then returning, an iPhone 10.
On Dec. 5, police received a call from Copper City Wireless informing them a man had stolen an iPhone 10 from their store. Two days later, the man, Brenden White, returned to the store “to get the phone activated,” police said. Store employees confiscated the stolen phone and police said a warrant was issued for White’s arrest.
On Dec. 30, police recognized White yelling and screaming in the middle of Park Street. They arrested him on the warrant for misdemeanor theft.
A 47-year-old woman was arrested for eating a sandwich with her pants around her ankles inside Pork Chop John’s on Saturday.
According to police, they were notified around 5:45 p.m. that Tangee Jessen was standing in Pork Chop John’s eating with her pants down. Officers arrived and asked Jessen to pull her pants up and leave the area, but she refused. Police said she began arguing with and swearing at officers.
Jessen was arrested for disorderly conduct and failure to disperse misdemeanors.
