A Butte man who died after apparently falling from a deck outside a second-story apartment in Uptown Butte has been identified as 42-year-old Jason Noble.

Police provided details of the incident Tuesday but did not release his name pending notification of relatives. His name was released Wednesday by the Butte-Silver Bow Coroner’s Office.

Police do not suspect foul play in Noble’s death Saturday but his body was taken to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy and toxicology testing. Those results were still pending Wednesday.

Police were called to an apartment on West Park Street around 4 p.m. Saturday and found Noble’s body on the ground between two apartment buildings.

Sheriff Ed Lester said Noble was inside the apartment with two friends earlier in the day. All three left but Noble returned to the apartment alone.

The two friends came back later in the afternoon and were there for about an hour when they noticed Noble’s backpack sitting outside on the deck.

“It appears to be a tragic accident,” Lester said Tuesday. “We don’t see any reason to believe it was a crime.”
