The high-security compound at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge is no longer on lockdown, officials confirmed Monday afternoon.

On Monday morning at 8 a.m. the lockdown was lifted, according to Department of Corrections Spokesperson Amy Barton.

“There is an ongoing investigation, but there is no further possible threat to security,” Barton said.

Details on what the potential security threat was will not be released due to this ongoing investigation, Barton said. However, she noted that no inmates or staff were injured at any time, and that the Montana State Prison believes in being proactive when addressing security concerns.

Barton also explained that during the four-day lockdown, inmates were restricted to their individual cells but staff movement was not restricted.

The state prison also canceled visiting hours for the 330 High Side compound inmates during the lockdown, as previously reported. Barton said regular weekend visitation will resume April 13-14.
