About two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court somehow ruled that corporations and unions could contribute unlimited amounts of money to political campaigns, which gives them additional clout in our elections.

As I remember our government was set up to be “Of the people, by the people. and for the people.” One man, one vote. This Supreme Court ruling diminishes the vote of every individual in our country and was not the intent of our Founding Fathers.

Now we have a proposal I-166, which says that corporations are not people and money is not political speech. If passed, it directs the Montana delegation to push for a constitutional amendment to undo the 2010 ruling by the Supreme Court. In the interest of the future of our great democracy this should be the number one focus of our delegation.
