As a lifelong Democrat, I am recovering from political PTSD. I am a Gloria Steinem feminist, 81 years old, living in a red state. Two of my children voted for a misogynist who judges women by a number – one to 10. Trump talks about draining the swamp, yet surrounds himself with swamp dwellers of the past. My concerns are many, but principally about the Iran deal: If we revoke the Iran deal, they will have a weapons of mass destruction in two years. This will inspire Israel to have fears, and they may nuke Iran first. Trump’s swamp dwellers and GOP Legislature are serious about this.
I have other ponderings. Sexual assault victims often do not come forward, especially if it’s revealed the attacker becomes the leader of the free world.
The comfort of being white with power and money is difficult to give up. The fear of collapse of white privilege caused many Americans to flock to the politics of Trump. Whites in power do not like the color the electorate is becoming, as we go forward. Trump has promised a world where white rich men run the world, enhanced by greed and ignorance.
Trump is a populist demagogue and an egomaniacal narcissist who flaunts his daughter and wife as arm candy.
In this age of lower expectations, can Trump succeed?
Unity is a long and trudging road.
