The failed bonding bill would have provided $5 million for the Southwest Montana Veterans Home and millions of dollars more to other infrastructure projects around the state.
The Butte veterans’ home will still be built, however.
The home had earlier secured money through House Bill 296, sponsored by Rep. Jon Sesso, D-Butte, which funneled cigarette tax money toward the project.
Sesso called that bill “a good backup.” However, he said the construction would fall behind schedule if the bonding bill did not pass.
