Former resident takes job with UW hospital

Former Butte resident Danielle Babb recently accepted the Business Planning and Analysis Analyst position with the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wis. She will work in the support and application of Performance Measurement data.

Babb graduated in May with honors from Carnegie Mellon University’s Pittsburgh, Penn. Accelerated Master’s Program with a Master of Science in Health Care Policy and Management.

As a graduate student, Babb, a 2009 Butte Central High graduate, interned with the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh Health System as a project manager and team member for the Veterans Engineering Resource Center.

During her internship, she led a Primary Care Wait Time Redesign that resulted in improved patient satisfaction and more accurate Electronic Medical Record data, managed the redevelopment of promotional materials and marketing strategies for VERC, and collaborated on a medical contracting process improvement initiative.

As an undergraduate at Allegheny College, in Meadville, Penn., where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, she completed academic projects focused on case management at a community access clinic and preventive care at a group insurance provider.

St. James notes accreditations, certifications

St. James Healthcare in Butte recently announced the following accreditation and certifications:

— St. James Summit Laboratory was re-accredited by COLA, a national healthcare accreditation organization. COLA accreditation is awarded to laboratories that apply consistent and rigid standards of quality.

Kate Welch, registered nurse, has received her national CCRN accreditation through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. The certification denotes those practitioners who possess a clearly defined body of knowledge called acute/critical care nursing.

Welch has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Montana Tech. She also holds Medical-Surgical Certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Welch has been at St. James for 10 years and works in the Intensive Care Unit.

Cindy L. Yarbrough, registered nurse, has received Medical-Surgical Certifi-cation through the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Nurses must pass a competency based examination to receive this certification.

Yarbrough has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Regis University’s Reuckert-Hartman College for Health Professions in Denver. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from San Francisco State University. She has worked almost two years at St. James.

Dillon pharmacist receives award

Shawn Patrick, a staff pharmacist with Barrett Hospital and HealthCare in Dillon, has received the 2014 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award from the Montana Pharmacy Association.

It was announced at the recent annual meeting. Patrick was commended for his many accomplishments by fellow pharmacist Lyndee Fogel. She said Patrick helped start an Antimicrobial Stewardship program with members of the medical staff to review inappropriate use of antibiotics and evaluating trends of infections with inpatients. Patrick also has been instrumental in data collection, at the state level, for reporting data on Barrett hospital’s anti-coagulation clinic.

Patrick is ACLS and CPR certified and is a member of the Twin Bridges Volunteer Fire Department.

Downey receives professional award

Tom Downey received the PayneWest Professional of the Year Award at the PayneWest Insurance sales meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz., recently.

This award recognizes commitment not only to his area of expertise and PayneWest, but to the insurance industry as a whole.

Cosmetologist joins Roots Salon

Melissa Lacey-Smyth, a licensed cosmetologist, has joined Roots Salon in Butte.

She is a master REDKEN specialist and does haircuts, colors and waxing. She has been working in the hair care industry since 2001. Lacey-Smyth has attended numerous continuing education classes including REDKEN, Sexy Hair, and Label M.

Butte lawyer opens Spokane law firm

Sean E. Johnson opened a new law firm in Spokane in late May 2014.

Formerly a partner at the firm of Corette Pohlman & Kebe PC in Butte, Johnson relocated to Spokane due to a promotion his wife, Trina Olson, received with the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.

Johnson’s practice for the past 11 years focused on complex civil litigation, insurance defense, plaintiff’s personal injury, criminal defense, real estate and family law. Sean intends to continue to focus on the same practice areas.

The Butte native graduated from the University of Montana in 1998 with a degree in Exercise Science and earned his law degree from Gonzaga University in 2003. He is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts in Montana and Washington, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Johnson also holds a “BV Distinguished” peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Johnson is parent to a toddler girl and an infant boy. When not practicing law, Johnson spends his time with his family, fishing, hunting and volunteering for the Shriners Hospital System.

Former Butte man buys mattress maker in Idaho

Everton Mattress Manufacturing in Filer, Idaho, has been purchased by 20-year employee Chris Sanders, formerly of Butte.

Sanders takes over the Filer manufacturing facility while the Everton Mattress retail location in Twin Falls will remain under Steve Everton’s management and ownership.

“Everton Mattress is a fifth-generation family business and I am proud to be the first non-family member to lead the manufacturing operation forward,” said new Everton Mattress Manufacturing president Sanders.

“Over the past several years, I’ve worked with Steve on a succession plan for the manufacturing side so he could focus on the retail operation. I look forward to growing this quality ‘Made in Idaho’ mattress manufacturing company,” he said.

Everton Mattress’ 40,000-square-foot facility in Filer produces 45,000 bedding pieces annually for customers in seven neighboring states and transported via their own trucking and distribution operation.

Sanders plans to develop new accounts and expand manufacturing capacity. The 26 employees in Filer will continue under Sander’s management.

Everton Mattress is one of 15 factories producing the national brand Therapedic Mattress in the U.S. as well as private label, university and contract mattresses.

Toad Hall Manor receives travel certificate

The Toad Hall Manor Bed and Breakfast, at 1 Green Lane in Butte, has received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award.

Toad Hall innkeepers are Glenn and Jane Johnson.

The accolade, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor, and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide.

Additional criteria include a business’ tenure and popularity ranking.

Two Hospice nurses receive certification

Two nurses with Frontier Home Health and Hospic at 1940 Dewey Blvd. in Butte, have achieved certification in hospice and palliative care.

They are Michele Sanderson, registered nurse and case manager, and Susan Sturde-vant, licensed practical nurse.

They were certified through the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses.

Yeoman joins Express Employment

Jimmie Ann Yeoman has joined the staff of Butte’s Express Employment Professionals.

Yeoman replaces former co-owner, Vicki Manning, who retired in May after 14 years of growing the local business with her son, Jason.

Yeoman and her family recently moved to Butte from Northern Idaho where she was an office specialist with the Idaho Industrial Commission, Workers Comp Division.

She has an associate degree in business education from North Idaho College, and recently received certification from Express University in both Front Office Management and Inside Sales.

Yeoman also trained with Vicki Manning for a month.

The family, which includes husband, Josh, and their sons Kaleb, 6, and Kameron, 2, have a home on the upper Westside with a yard big enough for her to try her hand at gardening.
