Standard looking for festive limericks
St. Patrick’s Day is just a few weeks away, and to get everybody in a festive mood, we at The Montana Standard are looking to run some witty limericks.
We are asking our readers to send in their original limericks.
A limerick is a five-line humorous poem. The first, second, and fifth lines must rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines must rhyme as well. A popular example is "Hickory Dickory Dock."
You can write about Butte, Anaconda, or any southwest Montana town. Give us your thoughts on St. Patrick’s Day, or pen some humor in regard to the many characters and events of the past. Choose any subject -- but remember, keep it clean.
Here is an example from Gary Kump of Butte
Pat plays golf every day of his life.
But today it is causing him strife.
For when a funeral passed by,
He said with a tear in his eye,
“Ain’t it sad, for there goes my wife”.
Free tax service offered to seniors
AARP Tax-Aide will again be offering free federal and state tax preparation and counseling to seniors and low- to middle-income taxpayers of all ages. Like last year, IRS-certified trained counselors will be serving southwest Montana from locations in Butte and Deer Lodge.
Last year, according to local coordinator Sherri Baker, counselors completed 838 tax returns during the last tax season.
In Butte, walk-ins will be welcomed from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursdays through April 11 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1621 Thornton Ave. Walk-ins can also stop in between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturdays through April 13 at the Butte Public Library, third floor, 226 W. Broadway. For more details, call Barry Kippen at 406-498-2660.
