Roller derby recruiting
The Copper City Queens roller derby team will hold a recruitment meeting Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. in the meeting room at Metal’s Sports Bar and Grill. The group is seeking men and women 18 years of age and older that are interested in skating, refereeing, serving as a non-skating official or volunteering in other capacities. No commitment is necessary to attend the meeting.
Burros to host election analyst
The Butte-Silver Bow Democrats Burros Club will host their monthly luncheon Wednesday, Nov. 14, at noon at the Butte Country Club, 3400 Elizabeth Warren Avenue. Celtic Christmas show coming to the Mother Lode
The Gother Sisters will present a Celtic Christmas show Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. at the Mother Lode Theatre. The show will be part of the Winter Blast, a winter celebration that will begin with the 28th Annual Christmas Stroll on Nov. 30 and ends with the 18th Annual Ice Sculpting Contest on Dec. 8.
The performance will serve as a fundraiser for the Mother Lode, with a portion of the ticket price will used to support its preservation. Tickets are $20 per adult and $12 for students with ID. Children under 12 get in free.
Bert Mooney Airport to host training exercise
Bert Mooney Airport will hold a full-scale emergency response exercise Thursday, Nov. 15, 9 to 11 a.m. The drill will test the speed and effectiveness of emergency personnel and airport staff in the event of an aircraft emergency. The training will not cause any delays or interruptions to normal airport operations.
Nordic ski club to host ball
The Mile High Nordic Ski Club will host its annual Ski Ball on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Silver Bow Center, 125 Granite St. This fundraising event will support the Mile High Nordic Ski Education Foundation and ski-trail grooming at Mount Haggin, Moulton and Stodden Park.
The Ski Ball includes a dinner, plus live and silent auctions. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids ages 12 to 17.
Battlefield curtails hours for winter
WISDOM - The Big Hole National Battlefield Visitor Center is curtailing its hours for winter and will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays from Nov. 19 to March 26. The national battlefield site will remain open seven days a week, year round, for public visitation. With the limited visitor center hours, park staff will spend additional time conducting outreach and school visits and coordinating special events.
MontanaPBS relaunches regional translator
Local TV viewers who use an antenna in Butte, Anaconda, Whitehall and surrounding communities are encouraged rescan their televisions to tune in MontanaPBS, as the station recently transitioned its over-the-air television translator to a new channel. According to Dean Lawver, director of technology for MontanaPBS, the change has brought about "improved signal coverage" in the Butte area.
