Avon’s annual turkey dinner Sunday
AVON — The 54th annual turkey dinner at the Avon Community Hall will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. Dinner is $8 for adults, $5 for children 6-12, and preschoolers eat for free. Avon is located northeast of Deer Lodge on Highway 12.
Since 1965 the dinner has been served each October as a fundraiser to heat and maintain the community hall. It has also become a social event for friends and neighbors.
The entire community participates — from preparing the 20 turkeys to clean up.
Montana Tech to hold book sale
Beginning Thursday, Oct. 10, Friends of the Montana Tech Library will be holding a book sale with items priced to sell at the Montana Tech library.
Books include science, handyman, fiction, travel and more. Hardbacks are $1, paperbacks, 50 cents, DVDs, $1, and special books priced as marked.
Dates and times are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11; 12:30 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11; and 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13.

Firemen to be library guests
Butte’s firemen will be the special guests at the Butte Public Library’s story time at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11.

Kiwanis club elects new officers
Ray Petersen was installed as president of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club during the club’s installation dinner on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The incoming officers are: president-elect, Blake DeShaw, and the continuing officers are Bill Hughes, treasurer, and Kristel Callahan, secretary
In addition, the following members will serve on the club’s board of directors — Pat Cambell, Corey Dennehy and Jon Sando.
The past president is Cheryl Peterslie. She will continue to serve on the club board for the next two years.
