Tribute to Thomas Francis Meagher

Thomas Francis Meagher was a multi-faceted character in Irish history, American history and finally, Montana’s history. A rebel leader, prison escapee, soldier, Civil War general, and territorial governor of Montana – he lived an unbelievable life – one mysteriously cut short at the age of 43. This page from the 1902 Butte Miner celebrated Meagher’s life, and was illustrated by George W. Long, the Butte Miner’s chief artist.
