Thomas Patrick McHugh passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, in Butte.

Thomas was born in Butte, Montana on March 23, 1962, to Edward (Ted) and Pearl (Meier) McHugh, the fourth child of four children. As a boy he attended Greeley Elementary, East Junior High, and graduated from Butte High School in 1980. After high school Tom ventured off to Arizona to attend the Arizona Automotive Technical Institute where he gained his diploma in 1981.

Following school Tom moved back to Butte and in the summer of 1983 met Dixie Millage. The two quickly became best friends and were married in July of 1985. The couple had three children, Larry Edward, Amanda Marie, and Brady Thomas. They had an awesome network of close friends and spent many sunny afternoons at the softball fields where Tom played on a team with his best pals. Tom and Dixie were married 25 years and divorced in 2011 but remained friends.

There is so much to say about the great man that Tom was. He had a special sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. He was a genius mechanic with the callused hands to prove it. He never turned down a friend or family member with a car in need and many of his own projects were often put aside to help. He was a dedicated employee for only a handful of business over his many years of work. These include Bruce’s Quick Lube, Gilboy’s Towing, Certified Transmission, Harrington Pepsi, and Montana Resources.

Tom had love for music, sports, his mountain bike, and his dogs. Tom was also very proud to become a grandfather. His love for Butte ran deep and he was honored to be a part of four generations of McHugh’s to work in the Butte mines. It is hard to express how much he was loved and how much he will truly be missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.

Tom is survived by his siblings, Gaylene McHugh and Mickey McHugh; children, Larry (Karla) McHugh, Amanda (Adrian) Guidoni, and Brady McHugh; grandchildren, Teghan, Brayden, Tiara Guidoni and Colin, Luke McHugh; niece, Andi (Brad) Halsten of Billings, Mt; nephews, Ryan Millage of Darby, Mt and Travis Hankinson of Dillon, Mt; close cousins, Alyse Grant of Butte and Mike Grant of Bozeman, Mt; and his good buddy and neighbor Brandon Burnett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward(Ted) McHugh and Pearl Anderson; and his beloved sister Marilyn McHugh.

Services will be held at Duggan Dolan Mortuary on Thursday May 4th at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow at the Thornton Building Ballroom at 65 E. Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pintler Pets of Anaconda or Butte America Foundation.
