Sharon Kay Whelchel passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 28, 2018, at her home in Butte surrounded by her loving family. She was born Oct. 9, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri to Luther and Beatrice (Taylor) Brown and was raised and educated in Delaware.
Sharon married Gene Whelchel on May 2, 1970 in Delaware, and together they had four children.
Sharon and Gene moved to Butte in 2002 and she worked as a cake decorator for many years, including seven years with Walmart. She and Gene were active in the Foster Parents Program for many years and were longtime and active members of the Church of Christ.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Gene Whelchel of Butte; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene Jr. and Wendy Whelchel of Butte, Chris and Shelly Whelchel of Butte; and daughters and son-in-law, Rebecca and Clifton Perkins of Tillamook, Oregon and Heather Whelchel of Butte. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, her mother, Beatrice Brown of Oakton, Maryland, brothers, Barry Brown, Marty Brown, Gregory Brown and her sister, Kathy Baker.
Sharon’s remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted Monday morning at 11 o’clock and friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10 o’clock. Interment will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Express condolences at www.wayrynen-richards.com.
