Russel B. Eller passed away on Jan. 16, 2019. He was born in Harlowtown, Montana, Jan. 21, 1931 to Milford J. and Hilda P. Eller. He and his two older sisters, Virginia and Harriett, were raised in Butte.
Russ graduated from Butte High in May of 1949. He joined the U.S. Naval Academy and trained in San Francisco in June 1949. He served aboard the ship USS Bonhomme Richard CV-31 during the '52' Korean War conflict. Russ earned the Navy service ribbon (2 stars), United Nations service ribbon and the National Defense ribbon.
During his working career he started in the glass business at PP&G in Butte.
He moved to Washington state in 1967. He worked for Belknap Glass in Seattle until he and a partner started their own glass installing business in 1974.
After retiring, he settled in Spokane Valley.
Russel is survived by his only daughter, Karen Knowlton (Wayne Marchie) Butte. Granddaughter Kaelin Maddock (Vern) and grandson Robert Knowlton (Karyna). His loving companion Doradeen Nelson of 25 years, oh how they loved each other. His four stepsons Gene, Clint, and Don Nelson of Spokane and Barry Nelson of Florida. Together Russ and Dee had 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, whom he loved dearly.
Russ was predeceased by his parents and two older sisters Virginia Mueller and Harriett Bruha.
Russ was deeply loved by all that knew him. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb.10, at the Mission Meadows Community Center in Spokane Valley, Washington.
