June 13, 1926-Dec. 5, 2018
On Dec. 5, 2018, Michael Frank Elich, our dad, mentor and friend, passed away at the age of 92 at St. James Healthcare. He was born on June 13, 1926 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Lawrence and Josephine Elich. Dad grew up on Farrell Street and was always so proud of his Croatian heritage.
Dad attended school through the 8th grade, at which time he felt the need to go to work to help support the family. At the age of 18, he was drafted into World War II and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
Upon returning home from the war, he began working at the Anaconda Company as a boilermaker and would retire 37 years later as the supervisor of the machine shop. He would spend another 7 years doing maintenance work at the Crest Nursing Home.
At the age of 36, he would marry the love of his life, Marie Kindt. They were blessed to celebrate 56 years of marriage and raise two children, Mike and Michele. Marie would proceed him in death by 21 days. Without Marie, there was no Mike.
In the early years before he became tied down with his family, he spent most weekends fishing and camping with his group of friends in a converted bus they named the Orphan Girl. He loved to fish and float the rivers and was an excellent metal fabricator.
Mike is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Mike (Sue) of Camas, Washington, and daughter and son-in-law Michele (Mike) Madlena of North Salt Lake, Utah. His granddaughters Kristen and Amanda Elich and Michaella and Meaghan Madlena. His sister Steffie Sullivan of Woodland, California, and sisters-in-law Betty Piskolich and Nancy Wills both of Butte and numerous nephews and nieces. He is proceeded in death by his parents Lawrence and Josephine Elich, brother Joseph Elich and best friend Frank Piskolich.
A very special thank you to our dear friend Sheena Hensley of Senior Solutions.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Dec. 18, 2018, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10. Interment of ashes will take place immediately after mass at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Butte Country Club beginning at 1 p.m.
Dad and Mom, we will miss you more than words can say but will continue to make you proud until we are joined together again in heaven. Love Always, Mike and Michele
