Matilda A. “Tillie” Hanson, 95, passed peacefully Dec. 2, 2017, at the Idaho State Veterans Home with her husband of 70 years at her bedside.

Tillie was born March 14, 1922, in Racine, Wisconsin, the 10th of 13 children. She was a Navy WAVE during WWII, served in Hawaii, and met her Navy husband, Robert A. (Bob) Hanson in Seattle, Washington. They married in 1947, and after being discharged, moved to Butte, Montana, Bob’s hometown, where they lived for 57 years. They enjoyed camping, fishing and skiing with family and friends.

In 2005, they moved to Valley View Retirement Community in Boise, Idaho, to be near children. Tillie’s last two years were at Spring Creek Memory Care and Idaho State Veterans Home, where she received great love and care.

Tillie was a devoted member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary in Butte. She supported the Disabled American Veterans and numerous charitable organizations.

Tillie is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Bob (Kathy) Hanson (Boise, Idaho); adopted daughter, Carol McIntosh (Boise); daughters, Bonnie (Pete) Ministrelli (Livonia, Michigan) and Jo Anne (Mike) Wortman (Boise, Idaho); daughter-in-law, Sue Hanson (Mukilteo, Washington); 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Nita Wilson (Butte). Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters; her son, John Hanson (2005); and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Deradourian (2016).

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the wonderful people who were involved in Tillie’s care during the last few years. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to your favorite charity, Our Lady of the Rockies, or a Veterans’ organization.

A Funeral Mass for Tillie and Bob will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, following her husband Bob’s passing. Interment will take place at a future date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise with full military honors.
