Feb. 3, 1926-June 3, 2019

Lifetime Anaconda resident, Mary Hess, passed away peacefully in the early morning of June 3, 2019.

Mary’s 93-year adventure began on February 3, 1926, born the fifth of ten children to Sanai and Alice Beausoleil. Mary attended Saint Peter School and worked at Duval Hardware.

On May 4, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to George Hess and together they raised six children. Mary was a loving mother and wife. She rarely missed any of her children’s sports or school events and was an active member of the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary at Saint Joseph Church.

Once all of her children were in school, Mary returned to work outside the home. She was a well-known longtime employee at Hoyal Jewelry and McIntyre’s.

Mary’s outgoing personality garnered her countless friends. Always smartly dressed, Mary was quick to start a conversation with anyone she encountered. Especially fond of babies, Mary would never miss an opportunity to swoon over any baby she saw.

Mary was the last surviving sibling of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, George, and her eldest child, SMSgt David Hess.

Mary’s life was guided by her deep faith and her commitment to the church. She leaves behind a number of close friends with whom she shared time and treasure. There will be an open seat at Holy Family Church, Sunday breakfasts, birthday dinners, rides to Butte and Friday dinners at May Palace.

Mary’s passing leaves an empty space in many hearts that will never be filed, but she left us a trove of memories that will endure time. Mary is now home with the God she served all her life. We will miss her.
