Nov. 26, 1965-Jan. 5, 2019
Nan went peacefully to heaven on January 5th, 2019. She was at home and was surrounded by her loving parents and family at the time of her passing.
Nan was born on November 26, 1965 to Lee and Mary Louise (Cole) Tierney in Butte, MT. She was born on her Dad’s birthday and managed to interrupt one of his hunting trips.
Nan was born with Downs Syndrome and was very special from the beginning. Mom always said that Nan was one of God’s angels.
Nan attended Emerson Elementary with her 5 siblings. She also attended East Junior High and graduated from Butte High school in 1988. Nan loved to participate in the Special Olympics. Her favorite activities were basketball, bowling and cheerleading.
After graduation Nan worked for the Butte Sheltered Workshop (BSW). She worked at BSW until 2005. Nan “retired” from the BSW and spent most week days at the Mountain View Social Development Center. She absolutely loved going to the center. She had her friends from childhood with her there. The staff at the center did an amazing job with Nan. Thank you to Josie Tofoya, Lisa Copp and the rest of the staff at the center.
Nan always took her summer vacations for two months every year to enjoy time with her family. Nan enjoyed her trips with her parents to New Mexico, Arizona and California. She especially enjoyed her trips to the Gulf of Mexico and Hawaii.
Nan is survived by her parents, Lee and Mary Louise Tierney; her sister, Louisa Tierney; and brothers, John (Belinda) Tierney, Leo Tierney, Mike (Marisa Pedulla) Tierney, and Dan (Sophie) Tierney.
She loved the role of being an aunt. Nan is survived by her nieces and nephews: Brittney and Zach Tierney; Gabe, Aidan and Ben Tierney (mother Ann DeMaio); Kyle and Leanna Markovics; Sam and Bruno Crolla; and Jay Tierney. Nan is survived by the following aunts and uncles, Brian and Eileen Tierney, and Albert and Anna Lou Molignoni.
Nan was preceded in death by her grandparents, Pudge and Loretta Tierney and John and Louise Cole. She was also preceded in death by the following aunts and uncles: Keith and Francis Tierney, Barry and MaryAnn Tierney, Bill and Colleen Gleason and Samie Keith.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Ann’s on January 17th at 11:00 a.m. Friends may start calling after 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at St. Ann’s parish hall. A private family internment of the ashes will follow at a later date.
A special thanks goes out to Nan’s steadfast caretaker, Lucinda Moats. Lucinda’s dedication to Nan allowed her to remain at home these last three years.
We would also like to thank Highlands Hospice for their amazing end of life support.
For being such a tiny person, Nan has left a huge footprint on all of our lives.
Memorial contributions can be made to Mountain View Social Development Center or Highlands Hospice.
