Our beloved, “Uncle Frank” Kavran, 103, died peacefully on August 6, 2019. He was born in Butte, Montana on February 7, 1916 and was the youngest of ten children born to Mike and Mary (Barich) Kavran. Frank was a gentleman who was liked by everyone he knew and will be missed.
Frank attended Holy Savior School in McQueen. He served his country in the United States Army during the Second World War from 1941 until 1945. During that time, he spent eighteen months in Greenland. Frank received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1945. After his return from the Army he worked in Butte for a short time for the Anaconda Company at the canvas house. Then Frank worked at the Multnomah County Court House and the Hilton Hotel in Portland for many years. In 1982 he retired and returned to Butte. After his retirement, he cared for several older sisters in Butte.
Frank enjoyed taking tours to the Western States. He enjoyed meeting with his many friends at McDonald’s and Wendy’s. He belonged to St. Patrick’s Church for many years. Frank was also a charter member of the McQueen Athletic Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Mike, Tony, Rudy, Joe, Ed and his sisters, Mary, Bess, Ann, and Agnes. He is survived by his devoted nieces: Margie Kavran and Geraldine Kursinsky, and nephews: Ed (Sue) Kavran and Tony (Debbie) Kavran.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, August 10th at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Pallbearers were Ed Kavran, Tony Kavran, Tony Kavran, Jr., Kevin Kavran, Andy Kavran and Dan Quinn. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, with a reception following at the Butte Country Club.
