Aug. 5, 1948-May 26, 2019
Our beautiful Diana passed away after a brief illness while on vacation in Germany. She was born in Butte, Montana on Aug. 5, 1948, the second of 7 children born to Trinidad & Rose Quintana. She attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Butte High School in 1966, then went on to attend Highlands University and the University of New Mexico. She gave birth to and raised 3 children: Tammy, Tonya, and Russell. She left Butte in 1986 and moved to her parents’ home state of New Mexico, living there until her time of death.
She worked at the University of New Mexico until retiring in 2009. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and tending to her beautiful garden. She loved to crochet, sew, and make jewelry. Her family members will cherish all the gifts she made for each of them. She was so thoughtful, seeming never to forget a birthday. She would always send cards and a little something to make you feel special. She also loved to travel with her long-time partner, Yogi to assist in training his falcons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Trinidad “Poncho” and Rose (Otero) Quintana and brother, Trinidad “Fred” Quintana.
She is survived by her long-time partner, Joachim “Yogi” Hermann and her 3 children, Tammy Barnett, Tonya Rintala, and Russell (Michelle) Rintala, as well as her 4 grandchildren, Courtney Lyndes, Marti Barnett, Augustus “Gus” Rintala-MacLeod, Leah Rintala and 2 great-grandchildren, Ryker & Reese Lyndes.
She is also survived by her 5 sisters, Betty (Don) Shaw, Lucy (Jim) Montgomery, Mary Schrapps (Joe), Georgina Button (Hal), and Theresa Willard (Mark), as well as many adored nieces and nephews, extended family and friends that loved her unconditionally. We would like to thank Cristy who assisted and watched over her. You were a great comfort to her until the end.
A private family internment of her ashes will be held in New Mexico and a family celebration of life will be held in Butte, Montana in August at a date and time to be determined. Vaya con Dios Diana.
