David Edward Meier passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in Butte, with his loved ones by his side. He was born on December 2, 1932 in Missoula, Montana. Dave was raised in Rocker, Montana. He attended Rocker Elementary School and graduated from Butte High School in 1952.
He enlisted in the Navy after high school and was honorably discharged in 1958. Dave spent his career working for BA & P Railroad. He retired in 1996 as an engineer.
He married Zita Mae Harrington on November 30, 1963. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1981.
Dave was an avid musician throughout his life, playing drums, trumpet and trombone in several bands. He was known for wearing colorful welder caps. He always put MACK Bulldog ornaments on his vehicles (including his 4-wheeler). He decorated EVERYTHING with stars. He also loved riding his motorcycle — he put nearly 80,000 miles on his 1976 Honda Goldwing.
David was also preceded in death by his mother, Madeline; father. Harry E.; brothers, Harry F., Maurice, Franklin; and nephew, David L. He is survived by nieces and nephews: Jan, Cathy, Tina and Dan. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces, nephews and countless cherished friends.
Friends may call from 12:00 (noon) to 1:00 PM Friday in the Duggan Dolan Chapel for visitations. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM in the Chapel. Rite of Committal will follow in Mountain View Cemetery with Military Honors.
