April 6, 1939-March 21, 2019
David Brent Henderson, age 79, passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah March 21, 2019 following an extended illness.
David was born April 6, 1939 in Great Falls, Montana and was adopted shortly thereafter with the utmost happiness by Edgar and Lura Henderson. The family moved from Billings to Butte, Montana in 1940. Dave attended Whittier and graduated from Butte High School in 1958. He attended Ricks College, Rexburg, Idaho, where met his first wife, Josie Preece. He served in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington then went on to Brigham Young University, graduating in 1966. Three children were born during that time: Monica Jo, Todd David, and Jason. Dave and Josie subsequently divorced and he later married Loretta Olsen.
This couple were inseparable and shared a great love of music. Loretta sang with the Utah Oratorio Choir and was invited to sing in Egypt and the Holy Land, an unequaled highlight in both their lives. Every Christmas this group performed "The Messiah", which David attended faithfully and admitted to weeping like a baby because the music moved him in such a special spiritual way.
Dave ultimately pursued a career in financial planning. His later life friends described him as a “super salesman” who loved to talk business. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh that was as big as he was and totally unique.
He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions which he took seriously. He was an exceptional instructor and loved teaching church classes. Dave always had a strong faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ, but not so much in himself.
David was proceeded in death by his wife, Loretta, and his parents. He is survived by his children, Monica Jo Davis Phoenix, AZ; Todd (Marie) Henderson of Salt Lake City; Jason, Phoenix; and sister, Cindy (Tom) Dunstan, Butte, Montana and their children. His grandchildren are Taylor, Jade, Maddie and Tristan.
A Graveside Service with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign War was held Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Elysian Gardens, Millcreek, Utah.
